Laure Prouvost answers our Proustian questionnaire
We met French artist Laure Prouvost in 2013 in occasion of the opening of her solo show at the Collezione Maramotti in Reggio Emilia as winner of the Max Mara Art Prize for Women. Just e few days before she had won the Turner Prize. Here the answers she gave spontaneously and kindly to our Proustian inspired questionnaire.
Which is your favorite subject?
Translation.
Do you believe in abstraction?
Yes, I do.
Which is the most inspiring place for you?
Everything.
Which is the quality that you prefer in an art dealer?
I don’t know many art dealer.
Which one in a collector?
I like when they support artists they love, and when they are able to dialogue with them.
Who is your favorite artist?
Too many.
Is there any color or shape that you really hate?
I can’t say.
What makes an idea become an artwork?
A good translation, or mistranslation.
Which novel is better comparable with your idea of art?
Tolstoj and Alain Robbe-Grillet.
Which song or kind of music?
“Ciao Italia”, a compilation of cheesy Italian songs.
What would you have done you were not an artist?
I am terrible in everything else.
