Physicist Stephen Hawking: ‘Energy and information can escape black holes’

As reported today by many press agencies and newspapers, the iconic theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking has revisited his idea in regards to the black holes, precisely to their so called “event horizon”. But what has aroused our attention is neither the fact that the “event horizons” might be or not be real, nor if introducing the “apparent horizons” is the right way to follow. What we have noticed is how the internationally-renowned scientist is using the term information, starting from the title of the paper – posted on line – by which he has announced his new achievement: “Information, Preservation and Weather Forecasting for Black Holes”.

The term, so important also in art, has been used in one of the key passages of the interview he gave to Nature magazine about this subject: “There is no escape – Hawking says – from a black hole in classical theory, but quantum theory, however, enables energy and information to escape from a black hole”. Whether you know about “the black hole information paradox” or not, it would be difficult from now on to say that creation is not always an information based process.
